Windows To Go is a feature in Windows 8 Enterprise that allows Windows 8 Enterprise to boot and run from USB mass storage devices such as flash drives and external hard drives. It is a fully manageable corporate Windows 8 environment.

    1. USB Drive (32 Gigs or more)

    1. Run the Command prompt with Admin Rights
    2.  Run Diskpart
    3. Enter  LIST DISK
    4. Select the USB with SELECT DISK and USB disk number, 1 in my case
    5. Clean the  partitions of USB with command CLEAN

    6. Create a new Partition with CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY

    7. Format the partition with bootable NTFS, format fs=ntfs quick

    8. Set the partition active with ACTIVE
    9. Leave the disk partition with EXIT
    10. Find the install.wim from the Win 8 ISO, and copy to some location. In my case I’m copying to C:\Win8_On_Go, I have used the 7 Zip to get the file.
    11. Install Windows Automated Installation Kit (AIK) and get the imagex.exe. in my case it is 32 bit one and get from C:\Program Files\Windows AIK\Tools\x86
    12. Copy the imagex.exe to the same folder we copied the install.wim
    13. Open the command prompt with Admin Rights and change the directory where install.wim is
    14. Enter the command imagex.exe /apply install.wim 1 E: (E is the USB drive letter)

    15.  Once imagex has run its course, still at the administrative-level command prompt, add the boot record to the USB by using  bcdboot.exe E:windows /s E:

    16. Kudos we have a Win 8 On Go version.
    17. For the first time you boot Windows from USB it asks for Activaton key and you can customise the settings.
