• How to Uninstall applications from SafeMode:

    In some cases after we install certain applications the system will hang either after installation or during reboot process.

    When can the machine hang or BSOD:

    The applications such as Antivirus agents, Data protection Agents, EndPoint security Agents that deeply integrate into operating systems may conflict with each other or with the drivers installed on the workstation. This will cause the system to hang or Blue Screen (BSOD).

    1. In the above cases when you cannot boot into normal windows mode try booting into safe mode.
    2. Safe mode bypasses startup programs, services and drivers that are not required for windows to load and will allow you to troubleshoot issues.

    How to boot into Safemode:

    1. Try to restart the machine and while the computer is booting press and hold “F8 key”.
    2. This will bring you to Windows Advanced Options menu
    3. In case you are not able to get into safe mode with step 1, then turn off your computer. Next time the computer is turned on windows should notice that the computer did not successfully boot and display the Safe Mode Screen.Safe Mode Options & Uninstalling applications in Safe Mode:Based on the version of windows that you are running, several different safe mode options will be displayed. The three main options are:
      1. Safe Mode
      2. Safe Mode with Command Prompt
      3. Safe Mode with Networking

      Safe Mode with Command Prompt:

      1. To uninstall an application you have to start the windows installer service. By default in safe mode the service is stopped.
      2. To Start the service you have to create the following registry key:
        1. Open the command prompt and type the following and press Enter
          REG ADD “HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SafeBoot\Minimal\MSIServer” /VE /T REG_SZ /F /D “Service”
        2. In the command prompt type NET START MSISERVER and press Enter
        3. Now goto add or remove programs and uninstall the application you want to remove.

      Safe Mode with NETWORK:

      1. To uninstall an application you have to start the windows installer service. By default in this safe mode the service is stopped.
      2. To Start the service you have to create the following registry key:
        1. Open the command prompt and type the following and press Enter
          REG ADD “HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SafeBoot\Network\MSIServer” /VE /T REG_SZ /F /D “Service”
        2. In the command prompt type NET START MSISERVER and press Enter
        3. Now goto add or remove programs and uninstall the application you want to remove.
