• How to Create a Response file (.iss)

    Response file (.iss)

    Installshield Setup.exe allows creating a Response file. Response file is set of instruction captured in the process of installation. The iss file contains the customizations that were captured during installation. This is very helpful during deployment in large enterprises as it facilitates silent/unattended installation.

    Switches used:

    /r or -r

    /f1 or -f1

    /f2 or -f2

    How to create a Response file?

    Run the Setup.exe with switch -r or /r and follow the installation instructions. 

    The extension of the file is .iss. 

    By default it stores in c:\windows\setup.iss. 

    Rename the .iss file as you wish. 

     

    Create Response file in specified location? 

    By using the switch -r with -f1“target path”

    or /r with /f1“target path” 

    Ex: Setup.exe -r -f1″c:\temp\example.iss” 

    How to apply the Response file? 

    Run the Setup.exe with switch -s -f1“Path to iss file” 

    or /s /f1“path to iss file” 

    Ex: Setup.exe -s -f1″c:\temp\example.iss” 

    Note: No space after f1. 

    How to create log file?

    Run the setup.exe with -s -f1“path to iss file” -f2“path to log file location” 

    or /s /f1“path to iss file” /f2“path to log file location” 

    Ex: Setup.exe -s -f1″c:\example\setup.iss” /f2″c:\logs\example.log”
